【A-PAD Philippines】 Mindanao Earthquake – Emergency Assistance Begins

In the morning of June 8, 2026, a deadly 8.2M earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao, leaving deadly damages across the region. Aftershocks have been reported more than 130 times and concerns of further aftershocks remain.

On the same day, A-PAD Phillipines dispatched a team to conduct assessments.

Damage Assessments (As of June 8, 2026)
According to the Philippine Civil Defense Department (OCD), 19 people have been killed, 134 injured, and 7 missing so far. General Santos City has declared a state of emergency. The estimated damage to infrastructure and property in the city is approximately 1 billion pesos (approximately 2.7 billion yen), with more than 43 facilities, including government buildings, schools, commercial facilities, and the international airport, damaged. In addition, 864,000 households are without power, and 3.2 million children and students have been impacted.
A-PAD’s Activities
A-PAD Philippines’ team has been conducting assessments in General Santos City. The team is also working with Unconnected.org and installed Starlink (satellite internet service) at the city’s disaster response headquarters and health department to secure emergency communication environments in the affected areas.

Planned Activities
Urgent needs remain for instant food, drinking water, sanitation supplies, and temporary shelters. Working with local partners, A-PAD will continue to provide ongoing support, from emergency relief to medium- to long-term support for housing repair and livelihood recovery.
