Ten days have passed since the earthquake that struck off the coast of Mindanao on June 8, 2026. Aftershocks continue, and the situation in the affected area remains unpredictable.

Assessments on the ground (as of June 18, 2026)

As of June 18, 78 deaths, 1,339 injuries, and 30 missing persons have been reported, with approximately 1.41 million people (346,413 households) affected. Approximately 80,000 people are still living in evacuation centers, and the estimated damage to infrastructure amounts to 1.29 billion pesos (3.5 billion yen). A state of emergency has been declared in 14 municipalities in Davao Lestaire, Sarangani, and Cotabato South provinces, and local governments are continuing their response and recovery efforts.

A-PAD Philippines’ Response

On June 16, 2026, , A-PAD Philippines held an online briefing and coordination meeting to streamline support activities among its partners.

Based on information shared at meetings and on-site surveys, an area map was created to visualize the response status and support areas by region. The map will prevent duplication of support and ensure that support reaches areas that are not receiving it.

A-PAD Philippines is also focusing on coordinating and disseminating information about humanitarian aid activities carried out by the partner organizations. 

– The Philippine Medical Association raised approximately 1.1 million pesos in donations to provide medical assistance to affected physician members and local residents

– The Dadiangas Medical Center is treating the injured. 

– The General Santos Chamber of Commerce set up tents at hospitals, distributed food and shelter supplies, and provided psychosocial support to children. 

– Holy Trinity College has distributed food packs to 200 households in Gran and is also preparing to provide aid to Balut Island. 

– The South Cotabato Chamber of Commerce Foundation has distributed 250 food packs in Maasim and is planning additional aid to Gran and the New San Jose district. 

– The Sarangani Chamber of Commerce is providing food and psychosocial support to 256 affected households in Maasim and is also preparing to provide aid to Malapatán.

While aid is being deployed in rapid succession, many challenges remain, including areas where assistance is difficult to reach, a shortage of temporary shelters, an oversupply of psychological support, and delays in building safety assessments.

A-PAD Philippines is committed to continue to work with partner organizations, share and disseminate information, coordinate personnel and supplies, improve logistics efficiency, and expedite the delivery of aid.
