【A-PAD Bangladesh】 Reflecting 2024 – Cyclones and Flooding
2025.01.23
Last year in Bangladesh, following a cyclone in May 2024, floods occurred in the southeastern part of the country in August and September, severely affecting the lives of the poor in the affected areas. A-PAD Bangladesh responded to both disasters and delivered emergency aid. In the eastern part of the country in August, A-PAD worked with partner organizations and the military to deliver food, oral rehydration solutions (ORS), and other supplies, as well as life-saving health services to a total of more than 90,000 people, despite the fact that infrastructure had been damaged.
A-PAD Bangladesh has been able to provide this assistance thanks to the strengthening of its preparedness and training during non-emergency times. Through multi-sectoral collaboration, A-PAD has implemented awareness-raising programs, workshops, and training for the eight Emergency Disaster Management Coordination Centers across the country and their local residents, strengthening disaster response capabilities by empowering individuals to help themselves and each other. Additionally, A-PAD has signed cooperation agreements with 61 organizations to date, establishing a system that enables us to pool our resources and help each other in emergencies.
Active since 2020, A-PAD Bangladesh has now become a familiar presence in civil society. We will continue our activities to prepare for disasters.
