【A-PAD Indonesia】 A-PAD Hosts Awareness Event for World Humanitarian Day

2023.10.01

As a disaster-prone country, Indonesia actively collaborates with various stakeholders on disaster preparedness to raise awareness. A-PAD Indonesia hosted two events in August.

“World Humanitarian Day”

①A-PADインドネシアの事業紹介

On August 19, in conjunction with World Humanitarian Day, an awareness event was held in Jakarta. World Humanitarian Day is a day to remember the victims of the August 19, 2003 suicide bombing in Baghdad, Iraq. The event was hosted by UNOCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) under the theme “No Matter What”, focusing on conflicts and natural disasters occurring across the world and calling for expanding the circle of support now that the world is in a difficult situation.

A-PAD Indonesia set up an information booth and discussed the importance of working with various stakeholders during disasters.

②BPBD DKI Jakartaの防災教育センター訪問

On August 29 and 30, A-PAD Indonesia visited a disaster preparedness education center with the Indonesia Cosmetic Association (Perkosmi Association), Martha Tilaar (Indonesia’s major cosmetic company), Kidzania, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Indonesia. The disaster risk reduction (DRR) education center is housed in the Jakarta Special Provincial Disaster Management Bureau (BPBD DKI Jakarta). The group discussed each participant’s work around disaster preparedness and also highlighted the opportunity to collaborate across sectors.

The education center also has simulation equipment that allows visitors to experience various disaster situations – evacuation by boat during flooding, extinguishing fire, evacuation from a room filled with smoke, and how to apply first aid. A-PAD set up disaster prevention education materials as well.
