【A-PAD Indonesia】 A-PAD Hosts Leaders Forum on DRR and Economic Resilience

On May 24, 2022, Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN)* and A-PAD Indonesia co-hosted the Private Sectors Leaders Forum: Lessons from Action and Collaboration in DRR for Stronger Impact in Social and Economic Resilience.

This forum coincided with the seventh session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, held from May 25 to 28 in Bali. 120 people participated in-person and online. During his keynote speech, Deputy Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Dr. Ir. Wahyu Utomo. MS reiterated the importance of the private sector’s involvement in economic development and disaster risk reduction (DRR). Ms. Neha Das, Senior Manager for UN Global Compact also discussed the collaboration between the business sector and surrounding communities toward achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). Mr. Masami Tamura, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan for The Republic of Indonesia, elaborated on the key ideas of the Build Back Better framework which was adopted in 2015 during the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) and introduced Japan’s DRR assistance for beaches in Bali.

Four companies joined as panelists during the private sector session and introduced their work on DRR. Mr. Ryota Shinsei, Chief of Sales Department at ELJ Solar Corporation**, discussed their DRR strategy using solar energy in Japan.

The forum concluded by declaring the commitment of the private sector to work together to achieve the SDGs on DRR and signing the pledge.

*Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN)

IGCN was launched in 2006 to promote the UN Global Compact and included 106 members from the private sector and NGOs. The head of A-PAD Indonesia is serving as Secretary  General and supporting the promotion of private sector partnerships and civic engagement.
