【A-PAD Indonesia】 One Month Since Earthquake

2022.12.21

One month has passed since a devastating earthquake struck Java Island, Indonesia in November 2022. A-PAD Indonesia began providing emergency assistance activities in most affected areas and has installed 11 toilets and 30 water supply systems thus far.

A-PAD Indonesia’s staff reports:

“One of the villages A-PAD Indonesia is assisting is called Wangunjaya. This village is hard to reach and the villagers were initially unable to receive assistance (medical care, tents, water) from the local government or other aid organizations. Injured people could not receive treatment and the villagers could not properly wash themselves. Their houses were destroyed and they used whatever they could find to set up makeshift tents to avoid rain. With no access to clean water, the sanitary environment was very poor. The affected villagers had a hard time reaching other areas to ask for help. When A-PAD got there, the villagers thanked us saying it was the first time they took a bath since the earthquake.’”

A-PAD Indonesia is currently installing water distribution systems for shelters constructed by the government.

YKB, another partner organization, has taken a leadership role and is coordinating between aid organizations. YKB is maintaining close contact with the village groups, visiting affected households to collect needs information, and building strong relationships.
