【A-PAD Indonesia】Seven Hotels in West Java Participated in Disaster Preparedness Certification Program
2024.07.06
As severe natural disasters continue around the world, disaster preparedness management is required in all sectors. In particular, accommodations such as hotels are required to be fully prepared in advance to respond in the event of a disaster, and to have a system in place to protect the lives of guests and employees.
A seven-day disaster preparedness certification program was held in the Lembang area of West Bandung Regency in West Java Province. A-PAD updated the certification system to suit the regional characteristics and needs of West Java Province, and selected seven hotels to operate the certification system.
Located on a highland, Lembang is a famous resort area, and is home to an active fault called the Lembang Fault. A-PAD revised the hotel disaster preparedness certification tool to be specific to the Lembang region, focusing on earthquake damage estimation, and conducted evaluations of hotel structures, facilities and management systems.
The evaluation was carried out by a certification team that underwent training for certifiers held in West Java Province over a three-day period starting May 20. The team comprises the West Bandung Regency District Disaster Prevention Bureau, local government, fire department, hotel and restaurant association, tourism bureau, engineers, risk reduction forum, and hotel stakeholders.
In June, seven hotels took the seven-day program to obtain the certification. In addition to evaluating what has already been implemented, A-PAD will identify areas for improvement so that they can meet the standards of the disaster preparedness certification tool.
