【A-PAD Philippines】 One Month Since Typhoon Rai – A-PAD Distributes Relief Packs

2022.01.15

One month has passed since Typhoon Rai heavily damaged the Philippines from December 16 – 18, 2021. According to local authorities, 406 people lost their lives and at least 65 people are still missing (as of January 14, 2022). Over 1,000 people were injured and 770,000 residents were evacuated. Some areas are still unreached and the numbers are expected to rise as access and communication lines recover.

A-PAD Philippines is working with local partner organizations to provide emergency assistance. The Chambers of Commerce in Davao, Cebu, Ormoc, and Metro Naga are sharing their activities on their social media networks and delivering relief items to affected areas with A-PAD Philippines.

Affected residents are having difficulties accessing electricity, safe drinking water, and hygiene facilities and risks of COVID-19 infections are increasing as well. Some islands are experiencing water-borne diseases – according to government statistics, over 400 cases of diarrhea and gastroenteritis have been reported and eight children have died. A-PAD Philippines is working with local partners to deliver relief packages (food, water filter) and water.
