One month has passed since a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Mindanao on June 8, 2026. Since immediately after the disaster, A-PAD Philippines has been working closely with partner organizations and volunteers to continue a wide range of relief and recovery activities.

Situation in the Disaster-Stricken Areas (as of July 7, 2026)

92 deaths, 1,316 injuries, and 20 missing persons have been reported, with approximately 1.67 million people (approximately 390,000 households) affected. Over 90,000 people are still living in evacuation centers, and more than 113,000 houses have been damaged. The damage in Sarangani province is particularly severe. According to the provincial Chamber of Commerce, many areas still require emergency assistance, including food packs, tarpaulins, and shelter repair kits. A-PAD Philippines is working with local governments to verify this information.

In response to this situation, A-PAD Philippines and its partner organizations are carrying out support activities ranging from emergency response to early recovery and reconstruction. Below are some examples of the support activities we have undertaken so far.

– The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) mobilized approximately 1.1 million Philippine pesos in donations to support its affected physician members and communities.

– A-PAD Philippines and Human Resources Volunteers (HRVs) from Davao City conducted rapid damage assessments and coordination activities in General Santos City. They assisted in developing humanitarian assistance plans based on situational analysis. In addition, with the cooperation from unconnected.org, Starlink terminals (satellite internet communication service) were installed at the General Santos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and various locations throughout the city to support the restoration of emergency communications.

– The General Santos Chamber of Commerce, together with volunteers, set up tents at hospitals and distributed food packs and provided emergency evacuation assistance.

– Holy Trinity College (HTC) distributed food packs to 200 households in the Panyan and Gran areas of Sarangani province. Fundraising is ongoing for additional relief efforts, including support for Balut Island.

– The South Cotabato Chamber of Commerce Foundation (SCCIFI) called for donations of food and water to the affected areas and distributed 250 food packs in Maasim, Sarangani province. Additional support is planned in Gran, Sarangani province, and partner organizations are preparing assistance for the New San Jose area.

– The Sarangani Chamber of Commerce provided food assistance to 256 households in Maasim, including those whose homes were completely or partially destroyed, and psychosocial support to affected children. The Chamber is also preparing additional support for Malapatang.

The affected areas face many challenges and require long-term support for recovery.

A-PAD Philippines will continue to work with its partner organizations to promote early recovery.
