Bangladesh was hit by large-scale flooding and landslides by heavy rains on July 6 – 12, 2026. As of July 12, the death toll reached 51 and over 100,000 residents have been impacted. The damages to homes were also extensive, with 48,063 homes destroyed in Cox’s Bazar district, 14,281 in Chittagong district, 15,330 in Bandarban district, and 473 in Rangamati district. In addition, 44 educational facilities, 3,840 km of roads, and 339 bridges were damaged.

Immediately after the disaster struck, A-PAD Bangladesh began gathering information on the ground and initiating emergency relief efforts. Based at its Cox’s Bazar Coordination Center since July 6, A-PAD team has implemented the following emergency response measures:

– 50 male volunteers and 20 female volunteers engaged in rescue and emergency medical activities.

– Activities were carried out in two areas: Sadar and Pekua districts in Cox’s Bazar province.

Support provided include:

–  22 fallen trees that were blocking roads and drainage channels were removed.

–  1,550 people, including children and the elderly, were rescued and transported to shelters.

–  Medical treatments were provided to 800 residents.

–  Food items were distributed to 100 households.

–  Shelter materials were provided to 200 households.

 

The team on the ground shared that aid remains insufficient due to infrastructure damage and disrupted transportation, and assistance to remote and isolated areas is desperately needed. The flooding has contaminated drinking water sources, increasing the risk of infection, creating an urgent need for clean water, water purification agents, and hygiene supplies. There is also a demand for additional shelter materials due to extensive housing damage, as well as support for children separated from their families and the provision of safe learning spaces.
