【A-PAD Sri Lanka】A-PAD Conducts Swift Water Rescue Training

2026.05.13

Ahead of the southwest monsoon season, A-PAD Sri Lanka hosted a swift water rescue training at Lake Weerawila in the Southern Province.

17 trainees participated including representatives from Sri Lanka Life Saving and Capital Maharaja Group (CMG). Using specialized equipment such as inflatable rescue boats and life jackets, the team focused on practical scenario-based rescue drills.

The training also emphasized safety management, roles and responsibilities, and communication, allowing participants to refine their technical skills and adaptability that closely mirrored a real-world disaster response.

The drill exercise was tailored to flood scenarios expected during the southwest monsoon season. Maintaining a high level of situational awareness, the team members worked diligently to reinforce their rapid response capabilities and information-sharing protocols.

The participants shared positive feedback, highlighting “The training was exceptionally practical and closely replicated the exact conditions of a real-world emergency deployment,” and “It helped with my knowledge and confidence required for swift water rescue training.”

This training was funded by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the ongoing project “Enhancing Coordinated Response Mechanisms and Partnerships for Climate Resilient Communities.”
