【A-PAD Korea】 One Year After Wild Fire

2026.03.31

In March of last year, southeastern South Korea was struck by massive, record-breaking wildfires. A-PAD Korea provided emergency relief assistance and has continued to provide recovery support.

One of the assistance activities, Tashibom Project in July 2025 aimed to support the emotional recovery of elderly residents living in the affected areas. The project utilized a new approach to disaster support through photography.

The affected residents not only lost their homes and household items but their photos filled with memories were burnt to ashes. Many elderly residents were left in despair, expressing that the saddest part of all is that not a single photograph remains.

In response, Tashibom Project was launched to aid the psychological and emotional recovery of residents impacted by the wildfires through photography. With assistance from local volunteers, the participants were given professional makeovers and dressed in vibrant Hanbok (traditional Korean clothing).

The project was about more than just the photographs. The entire process revitalized the community with residents laughing together in front of the mirror and complimenting one another’s appearances.

Through this project, A-PAD was able to support emotional recovery by helping to restore lost memories and bring back smiles.

A-PAD Korea will continue to assist the people impacted by this disaster and provide the support they need for recovery.
