【A-PAD Sri Lanka】 Food Assistance to 177 Households
2026.03.24
Heavy rains caused by Cyclone Ditwa in November 2025 have triggered flooding across various parts of Sri Lanka, affecting a number of households. In the Mutur region in Trincomalee, the impact on residents has been significant with some losing their homes and livelihoods.
A-PAD Sri-Lanka provided relief items to displaced residents and maintained ongoing support for their recovery. In the Mutur region, immediately following the onset of the disaster, A-PAD distributed food and non-food items across five evacuation centers.
The residents, particularly day laborers and those engaged in agriculture and fishing, are still facing challenges in their daily lives.

In March 2026, using funds raised through crowdfunding and direct donations organized by the A-PAD Management Office, the Sri Lankan team distributed dry food rations as additional support to 177 particularly vulnerable households.
These supplies provide critical life-sustaining support in the disaster’s aftermath. Furthermore, as the Middle East crisis exacerbates fuel shortages in Sri Lanka and limits access to daily necessities, A-PAD’s assistance helps vulnerable households maintain stability within this volatile context.

Some of the target areas were difficult to access, requiring the use of tracks, small boats, and even bullock carts to transport supplies. Through these efforts, we were able to ensure that aid reached communities that are typically difficult to serve.

This support was made possible through the generous donations of all our donors. With local partners, A-PAD Sri Lanka will continue to provide assistance toward the recovery and reconstruction of the affected communities.
