【A-PAD Indonesia】Emergency Relief in Flooded Areas of West Java

2025.03.21

On March 4, 2025, widespread flooding occurred in the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek), including the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, and the surrounding Bekasi Regency and Bekasi City. Heavy rains caused multiple rivers to overflow resulting in extensive inundation of urban and residential areas in various locations.

Particularly hard-hit were seven districts in Bekasi City with over 1,500 homes submerged in the Pondok Gede Permai residential complex in Bekasi alone (as of March 17, 2025). Water levels exceeded 3 meters, forcing some residents to evacuate.

Although the floodwaters have receded, the aftermath – ruins covered in thick mud and debris – is posing a significant challenge to the reconstruction of people’s lives. Even household water is contaminated with mud, and it is expected to take some time before daily life can return to normal.

Following the floods, A-PAD Indonesia conducted a needs assessment in the affected areas. Based on the findings, they are currently preparing relief efforts. In the Pondok Gede Permai residential complex in Bekasi, A-PAD is planning to provide cleaning supplies and drinking water for mud removal and cleanup as well as food, hygiene products, and medical supplies.
