【A-PAD Japan/Civic Force】 Wildfire in East Japan
2025.03.11
In response to the damage caused by the wildfire that broke out in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture in late February, Civic Force (formerly A-PAD Japan) deployed staff from neighboring Miyagi Prefecture to begin emergency relief activities on February 28. The team visited evacuation centers in the city and delivered fresh produce, vegetable juice, and masks.
In addition, Civic Force is delivering clothing items and other useful items provided through SEMA, an emergency response alliance.
Some of the victims who were forced to suddenly evacuate had to move with only the clothes on their backs. Their stay in evacuation shelters increases their stress day by day. They are also feeling great anxiety when they hear sirens ringing day and night and see the smoke from forest fires from the windows of their shelters.
In evacuation shelters, eating fresh fruit, wearing clean clothes, and restoring as many normal activities from before the disaster as possible are a step towards preventing disaster-related deaths. Civic Force strives to not only deliver supplies, but also to listen carefully to the needs of the victims and respond quickly and appropriately.
