A magnitude of 7.7 earthquake struck in central Myanmar on March 28. 144 people have been reported dead and more than 700 have been injured so far, and the number of casualties is expected to increase further.

In Myanmar, since the coup four years ago, fighting between the military and pro-democracy forces has continued, and many people are in need of assistance. The earthquake is feared to further worsen the humanitarian situation.
