【A-PAD Bangladesh】 Emergency Report Now Available – South East Flood Response
2024.11.26
In Bangladesh, heavy monsoon rains since August 22 have caused floods mainly in the major southeastern cities of Feni, Cumilla, and some areas of Chattogram, resulting in widespread flooding and power outages.
A-PAD Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Community Initiative Society (CIS), provided emergency relief activities through September. The activity report is now available here.
Visit to Cumilla
On November 20, A-PAD headquarters staff visited one of the affected areas, Brikan Upazila in Comilla District, where floodwaters had caused embankments to collapse, washing away homes and farmland and where A-PAD provided food and medical assistance.
More than two and a half months have passed since the disaster, and repair work on the collapsed levees began, but the victims who lost their homes are scraping together tin sheets to create temporary housing. Some farmers shared that it will take several months to grow crops again. A response team member said, “In addition to helping people rebuild their lives, we need to raise awareness of disaster prevention in the community from a medium- to long-term perspective.”
