【A-PAD Bangladesh】 Emergency Assistance Launched after Deadly Floods
2024.08.23
Widespread flooding in parts of Bangladesh and northeastern India, forced hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate. Water heights in several rivers across both countries have reached dangerous levels, and efforts are underway to rescue residents stranded on roofs of submerged homes.
As the situation develops, Community Initiative Society (CIS), a platform member of A-PAD Bangladesh, has begun emergency relief activities.
According to their assessment, water levels in several rivers have exceeded levels not seen in 50 years, leaving more than 180,000 people stranded and more than 15 dead. In response to the damage, CIS held emergency meetings in Cumilla, Feni, and Habiganj districts to begin gathering information and preparing to deliver relief supplies such as water, food, daily necessities, and medicine.
