2022.07.07
In Indonesia, tourism villages are planned to launch with a slogan “Dasa Wisata (tourism village)”. Prone to natural disasters, many tourists in the country have been impacted by disasters. Disaster preparedness and tourist safety are keys to promote tourism. A-PAD Indonesia is also bringing attention to disaster risk reduction (DRR) in tourism.
On June 27, 2022, the executive director of A-PAD Indonesia, Masataka Uo, visited Karangasem in Bali Province. While Karangasem is famous for its tourism attractions including diving and rafting, it is also known to suffer frequent disasters. Uo met with the local authorities and discussed disaster risk reduction strategies in Karangasem. They agreed to work together to advance disaster preparedness for tourism villages and build response mechanisms. In July, A-PAD Indonesia plans to hold a workshop in Tulamben Village to build a community DRR team. Uo’s meeting in Karangasem was featured in the Bali Post, a local publication.
