2018.12.24
On December 22 at 21:27 local time (23:27 JST), a tsunami triggered by an eruption of the Anak Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Straits struck several coastal towns of Banten in Java and Lampung in Sumatra, Indonesia. The government reported that at least 281 people were killed, 1,016 injured and more than 12,000 local residents evacuated (as of December 24).
A-PAD has been providing emergency relief to the tsunami victims through the dispatched staff at ACT (Aksi Cepat Tanggap), a member of A-PAD Indonesia.
On December 23, an emergency team consisting of 26 members of search and rescue (SAR), medical, and logistics staff headed by ACT senior vice president Mr. Syuhelmaidi Syukur arrived in the resort town Tanjung Lesung, one of the most affected areas by the tsunami. Next day, more than fifty volunteers were sent to Labuan, Sumur, Tanjung and Anyer to provide water and food to the survivors. ACT is planning to increase the number of relief staff and volunteers to 500.
We will continue to report on the situation from Lampung. Thank you very much for your support.
