2018.12.24
At least 222 people were killed after a tsunami hit coastal towns between Java and Sumatra facing the Sunda Straits on December 22 at about 21:30 local time, according to reports quoting Indonesian government sources. The death toll is expected to rise after rescue workers clear the buildings destroyed by the tsunami.
ACT (Aksi Cepat Tanggap), a local disaster response NGO, member of A-PAD Indonesia, dispatched a search and rescue team with staff members to assess the needs of survivors in affected areas.
A-PAD will continue to gather disaster information from A-PAD Indonesia and ACT and will support the tsunami victims through A-PAD Indonesia’s emergency response teams on the ground.
