A major landslide in the hill country area of Meeriyabedde Estate in central Sri Lanka?occurred on October 29th due to inclement weather. A-PAD Sri Lanka reports that the landslide stretches for about 3 kilometers with many houses and people assumed to be buried underneath. Most children were at school at the time and upon their return saw that their families and homes were buried. The current weather is bad but rescue operations are in progress. As of October 29th six bodies have been found and over 300 are thought to be missing.
