On December 4, 2025, the 4th Asia Philanthropy Congress, hosted by the Nippon Foundation, was held in Tokyo.
A-PAD CEO Kensuke Onishi participated in the session “Beyond Borders: Disaster Resilience and Collective Action in Asia.” Moderated by A-PAD Advisor Masataka Uo, the three panelists, including Onishi, discussed lessons learned from disaster response in Asia and the potential for future collaboration across borders and sectors.
At the beginning of the session, each panelist introduced their work and their organizations. The session then focused on how to strengthen collaboration and provide swift and effective support amid increasingly complex social issues caused by climate change and conflicts.
Onishi spoke about the experience A-PAD has gained in public-private collaboration in disaster areas, as well as the importance of building networks during non-emergency and multi-sector collaboration that brings together diverse actors, including government, business, and civil society.
He also emphasized that various practitioners in the Asia region must take the lead in strengthening mutual support mechanisms in Asia, where disasters are most prevalent in the world. He also stated that A-PAD will deepen its collaboration with AVPN, one of Asia’s largest philanthropic networks.
During a call for action to conclude the discussion, Onishi emphasized “Asia for Asia” and reiterated to participants the need for solidarity and cooperation within the Asian region.
