An international symposium will be hosted by A-PAD Sri Lanka on August 29 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

This year’s theme is “Turning the Tide: 20 Years of Tsunami Readiness and Resilience.” 20 years after the 2004 Sumatra earthquake and tsunami, representatives and staff from the six A-PAD member countries are participating, and a panel discussion will bring together tsunami and disaster preparedness experts from each country. The speaker from Japan will be Makoto Hatakeyama from the NPO Mori wa Umi no Koibito, based in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, who has been supporting the recovery of the region.
