From August to mid-October, Sri Lanka experienced enormous damage due to a series of torrential rains. According to the Disaster Management Centre, as of October 29, 6,467 people (1,682 households) in 11 provinces are still in evacuation centers or living outside.
Upon request from Kalutara District in Western Province which suffered extensive damage from the disaster, A-PAD Sri Lanka began assistance activities soon after the onset of the disaster. Working with the Ministry of Disaster Management, A-PAD Sri Lanka shared information with the other A-PAD members and installed temporary evacuation centers for rescue workers and evacuees with a large online lodging company, Airbnb. In collaboration with a major supermarket, Cargills Food City, A-PAD Sri Lanka also delivered 250 bags of emergency relief items including food and drinks on October 16.
