SMILE – PHASE 02
2016.07.12
As the second step of the SMILE project, 5 nurseries in the Kolonnawa District Secretariat received school kits which included kiddie’s shoes, colorful school bags in their favorite cartoon characters, socks, lunchboxes, water-bottle, books and other stationary items. A total of 106 little boys and girls attending Sri Sumana Pre-School, Kelanimulla, Samagi Pre-School, Mahinda Pre-School, Twinkle Star Pre-School and Hansa Pre-School were the lucky beneficiaries of this initiative.
The hopeful little faces were impatiently awaiting for their turn to receive their colorful gifts as Ven. Hanguranketha Wimalananda began the ceremony in the presence of Teachers, Parents and A-PAD Team.
“Many organizations and individuals came to our schools and listed out the needs of our children, but they never sighted us again. We are greatly thankful to A-PAD Sri Lanka, for not shattering the hopes and smiles of our young ones” – Ms. Kusum Pinnawala- Secretary of Sri Lanka Pre- School Teacher’s Association.
“Our houses were completely flooded and we did not go to school for a long time. But now we can go back to school with your gifts. Thank you aunties and uncles” – said another child.
After the distribution A-PAD staff members carried out an interactive presentation on the importance of being prepared for disaster in a very child friendly manner. The session was also focused on getting the important message across to the parents. 07th of July was an eventful day at Thalavitigodalla Purana Viharaya .
