Launch of “Impacts of Disasters in Sri Lanka” – a comprehensive profiling of hazards in the island
2016.02.19
A compilation of in-depth analyses of statistics on various disasters and their impacts on Sri Lanka was published and launched parallel to the ‘Sendai-Spring – Turning Risk to Resilience’ conference held on the 9th of February 2015 at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) auditorium. The occasion was graced by the Deputy Minister of Disaster Management, Honourable Dunesh Gankanda.
The publication titled ‘Impacts of Disasters in Sri Lanka’ is a collaborative effort of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) of the Ministry of Disaster Management in Sri Lanka and the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) Sri Lanka. An initiative of A-PAD SL, the book was published by Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA).
The information in the publication is of considerable importance to all sectors, specifically the public and private sectors, considering the need for development-sensitive and resilient investments; the book allows a comprehensive view of over fourteen of Sri Lanka’s hazards, thus acting as a country-wide hazard profile for the island.
The book is now available at the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies. You can pick up your free copies or visit the A-PAD E-Library to access the e-book. (E-Version available at: http://elibrary.apadsl.org/ or for direct access http://elibrary.apadsl.org/category/publications/books/
