2024.07.26

On July 24, Typhoon Gaemi approached the Philippines bringing heavy rains that caused landslides and flooding in many areas. A state of emergency was declared in the capital city, Manila, after residential areas were flooded. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) of the Philippines, as of July 24, at least eight people were killed and one person was reported missing in the southern island of Mindanao. More than 880,000 people have been affected throughout the country.

A-PAD Philippines continues to coordinate with the Philippine Medical Association to provide medical support in Marikina City, east of Metro Manila. In addition, A-PAD Philippines has contacted partner organizations in San Fernando City in Central Luzon to continue assessing the damage and needs, and has begun calling for donations to provide food and other assistance in areas severely affected by floods, such as Del Pilar and Sitio Pilza in San Fernando City, in cooperation with local partners.
