【A-PAD Indonesia】 A-PAD Hosts Disaster Outlook Forum in Jakarta
On July 22, A-PAD Indonesia hosted the Disaster Outlook Forum in Jakarta. Over 90 people attended the event.
Panelists included representatives from Indonesia’s National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNBP), the Bali provincial government, and the local hotel association. The panel discussed disaster risk reduction in tourism and partnerships with A-PAD.
Bali is a popular tourist destination and enjoyed by many tourists every year. Safety for tourists during disasters, preparedness, and response measures must be well planned out by local governments and the tourism sector. A-PAD Indonesia is currently working on disaster risk reduction in tourism and A-PAD is promoting a disaster-preparedness certification program for hotels in Nusa Dua neighborhood in Bali. By the end of August 2022, A-PAD hopes to have all 24 tourism facilities in the neighborhood certified. A-PAD is also planning on expanding the certification program among new facilities being built in special economic zones.
Disaster does not leave destruction in just one country. The deadly earthquake that struck Sumatra in December 2004 brought massive damage across Thailand’s resort, Phuket. A-PAD is planning on promoting the “Bali model” of disaster risk reduction through tourism in other countries as well.
