【A-PAD Bangladesh】 Entire Village Flooded Under Water – A-PAD Continues Medical Assistance and Relief Item Distribution
2022.07.09
Heavy rains brought by a monsoon caused once-in-a-decade flooding in Bangladesh, forcing millions of residents to flee their homes. A-PAD Bangladesh dispatched 28 staff to the affected areas to provide emergency assistance. A-PAD’s Management Office in Japan is raising funds to support the people of Bangladesh through a crowdfunding project. https://readyfor.jp/projects/bangladeshflood2022
In a northern province, Mymensingh, A-PAD is providing assistance in hard to reach remote villages. It currently takes three hours on a boat from a nearby village to arrive at the location. One village in particular is still flooded in three feet of water and A-PAD Bangladesh is delivering food to them by boat.
“I barely ate in the past ten days,” said Jamila, a mother of four, with tears in her eyes. Jamila and her family were stuck in their home when their house flooded before being rescued by a search and rescue team. Their house, belongings, and livestock were all swept away. The family only had dried rice for ten days until rescuers arrived. Jamila was crying with relief when A-PAD delivered food.
A-PAD Bangladesh’s medical team continues providing medical care in the affected areas on a temporary clinic on a boat.
