【A-PAD Indonesia】Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Eruption: Emergency Assistance Launched

2025.10.24

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki (elevation 1,584 meters), located on Flores Island in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province, has experienced continuous, active eruptive activity since a major eruption last November. The risk of disruption due to volcanic activity is significantly high because of its proximity to densely populated villages, agricultural land, and key transportation routes, such as the Maumere-Larantuka highway.

Due to the ongoing eruptions since last year, some households have been forced to live in shelters for nearly a year. Although the frequency of eruptions has increased since September 2025, aid to the affected people has been quite limited.

In response to this situation, A-PAD Indonesia has launched a one-month emergency assistance program.

The planned scope of assistance is as follows:

  • – Distribution of clean water to 833 households (approx. 3,332 people)
  • – Distribution of hygiene kits (first-aid pouches) for 340 children
  • – Psychological First Aid (psychosocial support)

This program focuses on addressing the immediate needs of the affected communities including clean water, hygiene supplies, and basic health and protection services. Special consideration is given to people with disabilities, the elderly, women, and children.

It also includes Psychological First Aid to strengthen the mental resilience of the affected individuals. The aid will be executed based on local assessments and implemented in close collaboration with local authorities, volunteers, and humanitarian partners.

A-PAD Indonesia is committed to strengthening its emergency response to the Mount Lewotobi eruption and striving to meet the evolving needs of the affected communities through close cooperation with its domestic platform members.
