【Tonga Volcano Eruption】 Now Accepting Donations
2022.01.17
On January 15, 2022, the massive undersea Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai volcano erupted and triggered tsunami waves around the Pacific. In Tonga, severed telecommunication lines have made it almost impossible to relay information outside. As of January 17, the full extent of the damage is not yet known. However, significant damages are expected around coastal areas due to tsunami waves and the country covered with volcanic ashes.
A-PAD is coordinating with the Tonga Embassy and partner organizations across Asia to support the affected residents and prepare for future volcanic activities. Assistance will include protection suits from lava, ash, and gas, safe drinking water and food, shelter, and reconstruction efforts. A-PAD activities will be conducted with A-PAD members with similar past experience and other experts.
Thank you for your generous support to help those affected by the disaster.
