Continuing response for Typhoon Haiyan victims in Central Philippines

KDRA distributing relief packs in Bantayan Island, Cebu on November 19th

Alliance members KDRA (English name Hope Bridge) and CDRC have successfully distributed relief packs to 250 households in Bantayan island on the northern part of Cebu province. Typhoon Haiyan made landfall here and destroyed trees, houses, crops, and other infrastructure. ?The relief packs contained food items and 5 meters of plastic sheet. KDRA and CDRC will make its second batch of relief distribution in Basey town on the Southern coast of Samar province. They are aiming to distribute relief packs containing food items, shelter kits, and hygiene kits to 1,000 households there.

Civic Force has shipped its first batch of relief goods from Manila to Cebu, from where it will be forwarded to Leyte and distributed to 840 families in?Alangalang sometime this weekend.?The second batch will be shipped to Cebu within this week and distributed?early next week in Albuera and Tanauan. The emergency tents will also be?arriving on the 25th in Cebu and will be distributed to 960 households in?the affected area.The relief distributions will be coordinated with CDRC’s regional center LCDE (Leyte Center for Development, Inc.).

Employee volunteers from SMART Communications, one of the corporate members of CNDR (Corporate Network for Disaster Response) have been mobilized to help in the repacking of relief goods at CDRC’s headquarters. CNDR is currently consolidating assessment data from the affected areas gathered by their local partners and staff and will finalize their response soon after.

PLANAS has deployed a key person to Cebu to serve as the focal point for PLANAS members.? PLANAS also established a website specifically for information gathering and sharing, public awareness and fundraising for Typhoon Haiyan victims. Various PLANAs member organizations have deployed staff members on the ground to liaise with local partners and conduct assessments. In addition to delivering medical services, they are aiming to distribute relief packs containing food items, clean water supplies, hygiene kits, blankets, and tarpaulins in Bogo in Northern Cebu and Iloilo.
