Japanese Ambassador’s Visit to Kayts

2016.03.04

The Japanese ambassador, Kenichi Suganuma was in Kayts Island in Jaffna on the 3rd of March 2016. During his visit the ambassador was able to meet two of the families who were beneficiaries of the Rainwater Harvesting System provided by the A-PAD.

The families of Mrs Rohinithevi Rathakrishnan and Mr Karunakaran Nageswaran eagerly welcomed the ambassador to their homes. The ambassador who did the rounds, inspecting the tanks, was interested in learning the technicalities behind the functioning of the water tanks. Communicating with the beneficiaries the ambassador questioned as to how the rainwater harvesting system has impacted their lives; expressing their gratitude to the A-PAD, both families were unanimous in stating that it has made their lives easier by providing them with easy access to clean water. Due to the current dry season, the families stated that the tank also acts as an excellent storage system for the water that they receive from the government bowsers. The neighbours of the beneficiaries who were present also highlighted the need for the rainwater harvesting system to be installed in more households as the water issue in Kayts is of great concern to the people.
