Monitoring and Evaluation of Emergency Relief – Water Contamination in Jaffna

2015.08.14

The MO team conducted an evaluation on the assistance rendered by the A-PAD to the population of the Jaffna District affected by drinking water contamination. The team met with various agents in DRR including the Government Agent of the Jaffna District, and the Divisional Secretary, Disaster Management Coordinating Officer and Grama Niladari of Tellipallai Division. The team also met with several beneficiaries of water and water buckets.

The GA in particular thanked A-PAD for their timely intervention in providing water tanks which enabled the affected people to access water points created through these 1000 litre tanks. The government provides water via bowsers to these water points creating easy access for the people. The DS of Telipallai was grateful for the assistance which complemented the efforts of the government in bridging the gap in humanitarian assistance. The Disaster Management Coordinating Officer explained in detail of how the water buckets distributed among families which had differently abled members, supported them in their daily endeavours. Beneficiaries too expressed their gratitude to the donors for enabling access to drinking water at close proximity as well as storage.
