【A-PAD Bangladesh】 Capacity Building Project for the Establishment and Sustainable Management of a Multi-sector Platform for Disaster Management – 2nd year (2021 Jan. – 2022 Jan.) Project Report

2022.01.09

Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country that experiences cyclones and floods almost every year. In recent years, the urgency of medical care and the deterioration of socio-economic conditions caused by COVID-19 have deteriorated the lives of the local poor.

A-PAD Bangladesh and CIS have a team of medical professionals at seven emergency disaster management centers. We are sharing information with the local community, including COVID-19 prevention measures and disaster mitigation preparations. In addition, we have conducted emergency response trainings with local NGOs, private organizations, and government agencies. By sharing knowledge, we aim not only to help reduce disaster risk, but also to establish a collaborative platform for people during and after disasters.

In 2021, the second year of the project, in cooperation with DCHT (Dhaka Community Hospital Trust), we set up a new PCR testing lab. We have conducted more than 8,000 tests for the purpose of early COVID-19 detection. (as of 2021 Nov.)

A-PAD Bangladesh’s activities have been ongoing since 2020 and are becoming accepted and popular in each region. During our activities, we make sure to keep a distance and use disinfectants to maintain COVID-19 protocols.
